Janet Klein & Her Parlor Boys - Merrymakers of Whoopee
Purveyors of rare and scintillating early Jazz, Vaudeville & Tin Pan Alley tunes of the 1920s and 30s present their 8th CD release – It’s The Girl!
As you’ve come to expect, the tonal purity and phrasing of Janet’s vocals is without equal. Moreover, the 5 years since the last release have been put to good use. The arrangements' intricately conceived tapestry and highly polished execution sets this collection in a new class of ensemble achievement – the group has vaulted to a higher plateau. This is 1920s and ‘30s hot, sweet and melodic music performed with flawless authenticity, that will appeal to a modern ear.
10 of the CD’s 18 songs were drawn from old films including 1930s Max Fleischer cartoons and Vitaphone film clips from the 1920’s. Early Vitaphone films are our record of Vaudeville on film and the band is greatly inspired by these sources.
The enchanting and effervescent Janet and her band of jazz players have never sounded so good. Janet’s own unique vocal style reflects the old-fashioned sweetness and charm of bygone singers like Ruth Etting, Josephine Baker, Lil Armstrong and Mae West. It's The Girl is an engrossing and moving experience. Oh, yeah... and it's fun too!
